Doing the laundry is perhaps one of the most mundane tasks that no one looks forward to though it has to be done at least once a week to prevent clothes from piling up. Many of us have learned the hard way that it is not necessary to wash clothing every time it is worn. This does not hold good in countries where the sweltering heat makes people sweat. To ensure that you go about it correctly do not be haphazard when you need to wash your clothes. Instead learn to be smart and complete the chores easily. Here are a few tips to help you complete the chores smartly.
- Set aside a time every day or couple of days in the work to do your laundry. If you spend some time organizing your dirty clothes, you will be able to complete the laundry successfully.
- Some clothes should be hand washed and cannot be sued in a washing machine. Check the tags before throwing clothes for wash. Turn clothing inside out to avoid damage or fading when dealing with knits, denim and corduroy. Spray vinegar on the shiny area of your denims and allow it to dry and you will be able to wear them with a sunny smile on your face.
- If you have children in the house, invest in a few laundry bins as it will help make life easier for you. Teach your children to sort out the coloreds from the whites and place them in the right bins. Sorting clothes is very important. Make sure to separate the garments from the linen.
- Place stained clothes in a separate bin for prompt action. Every night before you go to sleep check the clothing and make sure to treat the stain with some gel or stain remover as required. Let it soak overnight and wash the clothes in the morning. You can also use a detergent booster to remove the stains when you put a pile in the washing machine.
- Try not to over wash clothes. The water should be at the right temperature so that you avoid rewashing the clothes.
- Remove the clothes when you hear the beep of the dryer if you wish to avoid ironing the clothes. Fold them and place them in separate baskets so that each family member can take their clothing and place them neatly in their own cupboards.
- Separate the towels from the linen and use a little hydrogen peroxide. This will keep the towels fresh for a few more days and also remove bacteria that may be present in the fibers. Use hot water to wash out bed sheets, towels and underwear.
- Read labels carefully before opting for the correct washing method. Some clothes require .gently washing while others required recommended drying methods.
- Fabrics such as chennile or corduroy let out lint which should be separated from other clothing
- Add baking soda to the rinse cycle to prevent stain buildup when dealing with hard water. The clothes feel softer and cleaner.
