Positivity is a short term infectious virus that is valid till the point things go against you. We keep telling ourselves to stay positive in tough situations, but end up reacting negatively in crunch moments. This is the domino effect of what the circumstances demand from a person. While some tackle it smartly, others get besieged by a little wobble. When at work, things don’t go your way; all the theories of optimism go for a walk. Staying positive is one thing, but maintaining positivity to a level of hardship is another. All the successful people round the world have tasted big success owing to their amazing resilience against the negative forces. These people always knew something good is in store for them once they cross the barrier. The positive energy comes from inside and nurtures like a seed, while the negative one is a host to the parasite. No matter how affirmative you are, the mind tends to go the other way under strain.
Positivity breeds productivity, since a positive person is more likely to be content and happier at work, than a frustrated one. They tend to live better lives with a clear objective in mind. However, amid all the politics and the gossips in a workplace, it’s never easy to stay out of the negative frame. But on the other hand, there are things which you can control and make it work to your advantage.
Figure out the core issues
Sometimes, the situations are not under your control and you are forced to accept it the way they are. The only thing constant in this world is change and no one can deny these adjustments in life. The more you try to run away from the problems, the more it will follow you, just like your shadow. It may be easier for optimists to approach the issues at hand with a positive viewpoint, but those who are battling it out to develop a positive intent, need to analyze the matter before jumping into a conclusion. Ask yourself, what is it that occupies your mind negatively and is there any way you can nullify the effect? Chances are good that you may fall into a pit of negativity, if that becomes a regular feature of your thought process at work. Is it the company’s instability troubling you? Or are you worried about your job security? These things can trigger negative hormones inside your body and hence, whenever you find yourself on a slippery ground as such, detach yourself from the moment and recollect all the positive things that have happened in your life. Talk to your spouse or your loved ones to feel good about yourself and your life. Kicking off the negative energy is just a matter of changing the mindset.
Change your philosophy
It’s a universal fact that things do not always go the way you want to, since different people have different ways of approaching things and what seems to be an effective philosophy to you, might be useless to another. It’s understandable that work can get rough at times, but those who allow it to come hard on them are digging a grave for themselves. Majority of people have a disease called day dreaming, by which they imagine themselves to be in a situation which is not possible, at least in the near future. But when the mind is restored back to reality, there is a sense of despair that gives birth to negativity. This comes as an unwelcomed guest added to a list of already existing negative forces.
Negative philosophy can stretch beyond the point of vulnerability and insecurity. It can instill fear in the mind of a person, until he chokes. However, this sort of thinking can be turned upside down if you try to spot the brighter side of a lapse. Say for instance if your company announces a lay off for a week, don’t start doubting your job security straightaway, and instead think about spending a full week with your family. It’s easier said than done, but the main point is, you are doing no good to yourself anyways, cursing for something you aren’t responsible for. The struggle can take a back seat for a moment, since life will carry on the way it is directed to, and things will always be different from what you plan.
Negative thoughts are bound to come our way, as we all our susceptible to hardships, but it’s your attitude towards the problem that plays an important role in determining how you convert positive thoughts into actions.
Keep interacting with others
A workplace is not meant to be a prison with a bunch of criminals surrounded by cops all around. The more you keep yourself isolated in the office, the more negative thoughts will cross your mind and the others will start developing a wrong image of you. Interact with your colleagues; give them a nice smirk the moment you see them for the first time in morning and compliment them for anything big or small they deserved to be praised for. These little things help you maintain a positive relation and atmosphere at your workplace, which in turn reflects in your daily work.
Never leave a communication gap between yourself and your co-workers, as they are the ones who can understand your professional life better than anyone else. Share your expectations and fears, open up to someone you can rely upon and never let the devil settle in too easily. Positivity can be attained with a combined effort and it can be contagious to people around you. Set an example for others to follow; you may not be able to change everyone, but you would have done enough to influence the environment.
The good thing about bad habits is that it can be changed, provided you are determined to make a difference. No one can control your thoughts better than you, and no situation is stronger than your willpower. Hardships are unavoidable, but anguish is optional.
