One always feels that sometime in life one should go and live abroad and see how is it to stay away from the family and ones friends. But when one is finally living abroad we finally realize how difficult it is to stay alone. Even if it is not anything one begins to feel homesick. And that is something unavoidable. Homesickness is one term people living abroad are familiar with. Homesickness is something that causes distress and anxiety in a person just because he or she is away from home. Now what happens is when a person is abroad he or she cannot come back every now and then, so what should a person do? Here are some ways:
1. Doing what one loves
One can always choose something that he or she loves doing whether at home or abroad. When one can come up with things like this, it occupies the time slot that one usually spends sulking over the fact that one is not at home. And if this time slot is occupied one is usually distracted from the fact that we were homesick.
2. Positivity
One can try and see the better and the positive side of things. If we take the fact into account that one is staying abroad one would realize that they are lucky to be where they are because not many people get this opportunity. When one starts seeing the bright side of everything, it becomes easier to reduce homesickness.
3. Television
No matter where you are one thing that always helps is watching television. The channels which are available all over the world saw channels in every possible language so it is very likely that you will find a channel or a show or a movie that will interest you. And it is easier and better spending time this way than thinking that you are away from home.
4. Love the new place
When one finds a new thing or a new place in their lives it gives them a way to accept it and love it. One can try and explore those different options of improving the new place that they are living in and hence it can help them to make this place their home.
5. Make new friends
Staying in a new place means that you get plenty of time to meet new people and make friends with them. This helps you to explore the nature if the different kinds of people who live in a place who have just shifted too. Helps you to adjust and then again hanging out
with them helps you to utilize time and not think about home and the people behind.
6. New friend’s new people
When you are away from home, one thing that you tend to miss allot is the food you have at home. But since it is a new place one can always go out and try new dishes and occupy the time we sulk thinking of home.
7. Journal
Not everyone is much of writer but the people who are can make some use of it. One can always write down whatever they are thinking and feeling. If not one can also explore their creative side and come up with things to write about. In this way we can use our time in a more creative manner than thinking about home.
8. Take a trip
Life is all about finding new places and trying new things. When one is shifting abroad there is an absolutely new life waiting. When we are finally there, we can take trips to different places in the new city and find out new things. This makes us easy to explore things and places and hence homesickness is reduced.
9. Technology
Technology is advanced to such a level that one really isn’t away from home when we are staying abroad. Hence one can always call back home, mail, video call, Skype and feel like we are at home and not feel homesick at all.
10. Expose yourself
If there a particular reasons why you are feeling homesick, you can always come up with the option of facing it than running away from it. This way one can ultimately end the reason why they are feeling homesick and start a new life.
11. Gifts
Coming to a new place makes you feel disconnect ted from the world that you have left behind, so if you can pick up small gifts and send them back home it helps you to stay in touch and connected with people and helps you to reduce the homesickness.
12. Make a routine
Since you are starting a new life, you would need to live it in a particular way. You need to take time and plan out your schedules and routines and start a new life. All this will occupy the time of the day and help reduce the homesick feeling.
13. Internet
One thing that can occupy your mind at any point of time is the social media and the internet. It always helps you to occupy the time doing new stuff on the internet and hence helps you reduce the homesick feeling.
Hence there are so many ways in which people can avoid being homesick and not think about home all the time. Instead one can utilize this time for doing something better and not let things and homesickness effect us hence making the best of what we have and we land up becoming creative instead.
