Mobile phones have become part of our lives nowadays. They are so popular, that people felt the need to create a word for the fear of not having a mobile phone near, which is “nomophobia”. With this in mind, comes the need of protecting our phones as not only are many of them expensive, but dropping one of today’s phones pretty much means the end of its life.
Choosing a protective case to do the job is what should be done, but because of the fact that there are many to choose from, here are some tips to help you make the right choice.
1. The material of the case
One of the first things one must look at when choosing a case for the phone is the material it’s made of. This is very important because the stronger the material, the more the case lasts and the better it protects the phone. The material can be:
- Flexible and soft plastics because they last long and they don’t get damaged very easily, while also offering users a comfortable feeling.
- Leather, because it has an elegant look while also protecting the phone quite well.
- Aluminum or other light metals.
2. Look for what you like
Besides the material, one should look for certain things in the case, but these are quite subjective to each person. While some may consider the design important, others think about the durability of the phone. With this in mind, make sure to consider the:
- Design – some people have a specific preference for “cute” cases or those with a special design (bands, games, etc)
- Durability
- Weight
3. Otterbox type of cases
Otterbox cases are known as some of the most resistant cases designed for smartphones from all around the world. As there are many designed by this company, each user has the benefit of being offered a choice when thinking about the type of case that he’d like to purchase. There are certain Otterbox cases that can protect a phone under extreme circumstances, but also cases which are waterproof or designed for general use.
The materials used when creating Otterbox cases mainly depends on the model of the case, but users will easily be able to find cases made from silicone, plastic, or aluminum.
4. Think about what you normally do with your phone
This tip is quite self-explanatory as thinking about the things that you mostly do with your phone together with the circumstances that it is used in can play a big part in picking the right type of case. For example, if you go swimming from time to time, a good idea would be to get a waterproof case whereas if you jog, a case that is capable of protecting your phone against impact with the ground while also keeping it secure at all times may represent a much better idea.
With these tips in mind, just make sure to think about what you’ll use it for, while also looking for the designs you like. If you can’t make a decision between two cases, buying them both is not such a bad idea as phone cases have become relatively cheap and just about anyone who can afford a smartphone can also afford purchasing a case for it which will be sure to do the job in protecting it well and exclude the possibility of any incidents.

We are, of course, most tempted to think only of design and color when choosing a phone case, but I appreciate the fourth point in this article. Whether you want plastic or leather, thin or thick will depend largely upon what you will use your phone for and maybe even how you carry it. Don’t forget, of course, how frequently you tend to drop it. If you have a thin case, it may be best to keep it in a bag or purse instead of your pocket.
