Genetics plays an important part in determining our heights. When we reach our mid twenties we reach our full height. Some of us are born to parents who are too short or average height while others may have one tall parent and the other may be short. Our height is influenced by different genes and until we reach adulthood around the mid-twenties, we can expect to grow in inches.
Trying to grow taller is possible when you are in your teens after which you reach your natural height. Environment also influences our natural height. People who drink, smoke or take steroids at a young age may find that their growth is stunted. Here are a few tips to help you grow taller.
1. Sleep is very important
Children require getting minimum 8 to 10 hours of undisturbed sleep at night. The body uses this time to regenerate tissue and repair the damage caused during the day. The HGH or human growth hormone is generally released after exercising or when you just drop off to sleep. Your body continues to be stimulated with this growth hormone till you reach puberty.
2. Imbibe the right foods
In order to grow we should eat the right foods that include vitamins as well as minerals. If we want to grow taller, we should eat sufficient carbohydrates and proteins. Eat healthy foods such as eggs, legumes, meats, fish and dairy products. Calcium is very important for promoting bone growth as are minerals such as zinc and magnesium. Eat three meals a day and snack on healthy foods that contain essential building blocks to help you grow taller. Make sure to eat fresh vegetables and fruits as these types of foods will help you to boost your immune system and grow taller. Include foods that contain omega-3 fatty acids and supplements that provide antioxidants.
3. The importance of exercising
Start exercising when you are young as this will enhance your growth rate. Get involved in activities such as swimming and running and perform many stretches. Yoga is also advisable as you can learn how to stretch your body to the maximum. Some instructors also encourage their students to hand upside down for a few minutes in order to gain a few inches. Learn how to develop a good posture and hold yourself erect. If you develop a hunch you will look shorter and lose a few inches in height.
4. Be confident and walk tall
When you push back your shoulders and stride purposefully you automatically look and feel taller. This requires a positive attitude and will get you noticed by all. It does not matter if you are short. People look up to you because of your positive attitude and your good nature. You can develop your personality and confidently go out and impress people around you.
5. Consult a doctor
Do not let people lead you astray by telling you to pop pills or take steroids to grow taller. See a doctor and get his valued opinion. The doctor will evaluate your condition and suggest supplements or a nutritious diet with exercises to enable you to try and gain some inches. Cosmetic leg lengthening procedures are advocated but they are extremely painful and unless you are really very short, it is not worth the trouble.
6. Dress smartly to look taller
Scour the internet for guidelines on clothes to wear that make you appear taller. One genuine tip is to wear vertical stripes rather than horizontal stripes to appear slim and tall. Wear your hair short as this also gives you an appearance of being tall. Dark colors all tend to draw attention from your weight and height.
