However, being a pharmacist is just not as easy as being a retailer for a product. A pharmacist is no less than a doctor and he/she needs to go through a set of process to master this trade.
Get the Necessary Qualifications
First and foremost, you need to possess all the basic pharmacy related qualifications in order to become a pharmacist. To begin with, you need to complete your Bachelor of Science degree. Most importantly, you will be required to appear for an entrance examination, which would decide as to whether or not you are eligible for taking up pharmacy studies. However, most of the institutions happen to recruit individuals who hold atleast a diploma in pharmacy, in the capacity of pharmacists.
Hold a License
In most of the countries, you can practice as a pharmacist only if you hold a valid license. The rules and regulations alongwith other pre requisites tend to differ slightly from one country to another. It is highly possible that you will have to appear for an examination before being bestowed with a pharmacist license. Similarly, you would be required to pass certain other associated tests. You would also be asked to put in certain amount of hours in the pharmacy practice. At times, a background check of yours may also be conducted.
Be a Patient Listener
As a pharmacist, your major role would be to give an ear to your patients and help them with the medicines that have been prescribed to them by their doctors. In most of the cases, you would have a prescription to refer to, but there may be instances wherein the issue is not very serious and the ill person would like to receive direct medication from your end. This is exactly why you need to listen very patiently to the person in dilemma and eventually assist him or her with the right medication.
Enter the Professional Scene
Just reading through books and familiarizing yourself with all the medicine names is not sufficient. In order to get a 360 degree holistic view into the pharmacy arena, you need to full fledgedly enter the professional scene as a pharmacist. On the job, training would be very important for your success. It is only when you engage in some over the counter pharmacy transactions, you’ll be able to understand the real functioning of this field.
Science is the Word Here
Just because the world is opting for a career in pharmacy, you should not blindly follow the crowd. You need to engage in some amount of concrete introspection and figure out as to whether or not you can relate with the field of pharmacy. You need to have a good deal of interest in the area of science so as to be able to do wonders in the pharmaceutical segment. Moreover, you should be totally present to all the circumstances that are happening around you because science is sure to unveil something new with each and every passing day.
