Music has many facets to it and a listener can have different feelings when hearing the same. The real enjoyment is for everyone who listens to good music coming from any source. Learning an art form, needs concentration and hard work; teaching involves it even more. Providing someone the knowledge of music is something that provides a great amount of inner satisfaction for most people. Effectiveness and attachment to the subject is very essential for one to impart education. So, becoming a music teacher requires some marking and the following tips are sure to help you.
Set the tone in the class
A music class needs a positive atmosphere at all times. Any teaching experience will tell you that people get attracted to sweetness than bitterness. So, keep it mild but don’t allow it to go out of your hands as well. Music doesn’t need stiff curriculum, so make the class interesting for all. Not every one of the students is same and this calls for you to be accommodating enough to change. Make it work for everyone by changing the way you approach the lesson for the kids.
Make students find individual style
Surely every teacher needs to manage their classes well and in doing so they can ensure that the students are managing their learnings. Meanwhile, there may be a few in between who seem like they were meant to be a musician and live a life filled with music all around. These ones should be treated with complete freedom to find their own style; they are going to need your mentoring at all times. Teach them and let them work with it, on their own.
Take the lazy one’s along
Apart from the majestic one’s who are born to play music, there certainly will be a few who are good, but are too lazy to make the cut. There is only one thing that can help this lazy bunch to move forward; that thing is continuous practice. Music cannot be learnt if a person doesn’t practice and a teacher must always push the lethargic students to perform as much as possible. A nudge at the right time and in the right direction can really be ‘perfect medicine’ for the student who is lagging behind due to laziness.
Make them love their lessons
Every class can turn boring for the youngsters; this goes for the music lessons too. So, its better that you make the classes as enjoyable and invigorating as it can be. It’s pleasurable to learn your favorite instrument, but playing the same tune for hours can be commonplace. Make sure the students don’t go into the turn off mode ever. Keep changing the notes and let those ear buds respond to it.
Find the coerced students
To be fair, as a teacher you should never allow someone who is uninterested in any art form to come to classes just for the sake of it. This will surely ruin the feeling of the batch. Learning music is all about having it inside your heart and those who don’t have it, better to let them leave. This is the best solution for the students who are coerced into learning music by their parents.
