People may wonder who a movie critic is and why is there a need to have him around. But if you are someone who knows the value of a movie critic, then you surely deserve to be one to help others know which movie deserves a higher rating and why they must watch it. A movie critic is an individual who analysis and evaluates the movies or films and the medium as well. Although it sounds easy, being a movie critic is not as simple as others think. Following are the top five tips to turn yourself into an amazing movie critic:
1) Watch all sorts of movies:
If you wish to be a movie critic, it is essential for you to watch all kinds of movies and not the ones that you wish to or like. There are different kinds of movies like horror, thriller, comedy, action, etc. We all have our own preferences when it comes to watching movies. While some of us prefer watching thriller movies, there are others who prefer comedy movies and generally don’t watch the thriller ones. However, in order to be a movie critic, you need to develop all kinds of tastes so that you are able to write positive as well as negative things about all sorts of movies.
2) Understand the meaning portrayed in the movies:
Every movie comes with a meaning and hence it is essential for you to understand each and every movie’s meaning. Watching all the scenes and try to pay attention on the vision of the director which he wishes to pass on to the audience. There are two different meanings in every movie – a general one and a deeper one. Although general message is understood by all, the deeper one is understood only by a handful of people and you need to be one of them.
3) Start observing everything in the movie:
When you wish to be a movie critic, you need to observe every minute detail in the movie, right from the backdrops of the characters to their costumes; you need to comment on every little thing that you observe. Moreover, do not miss commenting on the background music as well, whether you find it annoying or soothing. Moreover, also understand whether the music gives enough justice to the scenes or not. Remember, music plays an important role in any movie so always give all your ears to it.
4) Note down the things on your computer:
Switch on your laptop and get going with your writing skills. Make sure that you write as much as you remember about the movie. In fact, segregate different elements that you saw and heard back on the big screen. Make separate sections and paragraphs talking about the music, scenery, story, direction, etc. and write as much as you remember about all these things. Do not limit your words when it comes to practicing. Ensure expressing all the details with the correct words and let the words flow just like your thoughts did in the cinema hall.
5) Give unbiased opinions:
Just because the hero dies in the end, or the scary ghost raises his hand once again, does not mean that the entire movie is a bore. Also, there are certain movie critics who generally write good about the movies in which their favorite actors act and on the other hand when they watch movies of the actors who are not very appealing to them, they dislike the entire plot. However, as a movie critic you need to make sure that you write all the correct things related to what you saw. Although you are free to give your personal opinions in words, you need to cut them short as much as you can so that the others enjoy reading your critic and not your personal opinions only. Remember, you write about the concept and not only about the stars.
