Many of us have a weakness for collecting shoes for every occasion. We may end up with too many and wonder how to stack them neatly in our closet. The problem is that we require shoes for every season! Look for ideas and ways to use the space available in your closet for storage. Use pipes, pallets, magazine racks or any sparae cabinets that you may find in your home and try to make the best out of the space. Never bring in your wet shoes as you will end up with more problems such as mildew and dirt. Here are 9 innovative ideas to store your shoes without investing too much money.
- Coat racks with pegs are ideal for hanging on the wall. Fix them in rows on an empty wall and hang your shoes and boots neatly
- Use PVC pipes. Take a pipe and cut it equally into portions that will hold the size of your shoes. Arrange the hollow cylinders on the wall in groups of threes or fours one below the other and create your own design. Insert your shoes in the hollows and they will remain there till you need them
- Get your handyman to create boxes for you which fit neatly under the dresser. You can have two or three boxes and fill them neatly with your shoes. Match the upholstery to the décor and you are sure that your shoes are safe and dust-free.
- Try to find a blank space on your wall. Place elastic shoe straps in funky colors vertically on the wall and due to their ability to stretch, you will find that your shoes fit snugly between two rows of straps.
- In limited spaces make ‘floating shoe racks’. This sounds difficult but it proves to be a great space saver. Buy ½”thick boards and cut them 6” wide and 3” wide. Use brackets to attach the wood to the walls and alternate with one row of 3” and one of 6”. You can use the whole wall to make these shelves which seem to float in space. Leave 3” between each pair and you can have many shelves to store your shoes.
- If you have space at the bottom of your closet, fix some tension rods across and make sure to level these rods for flats and stagger them for heels.
- Use shoeboxes to separate the new shoes from the old or to keep expensive pairs safe. Label the boxes to be able to identify them later.
- An ugly shoe rack exposed in the closet is always an eye sore. Cover the same with a pretty curtain or use a plain colored material and use a snazzy ribbon to add style and elegance to the curtain.
- A great space saver is the ceiling of the closet. Many of our shoes that are seasonal can be stored using a crown molding storage system. Angle the corners for a perfect fit. Hang them neatly in rows and use when required.
